4th Feb 2013: Here’s a little update on the trip. The format will be to run the trip in three stages:
- 16th March 2013 – 2 nights at Saint-Armand-les-Eaux, France. This is a French national park in the North-East of the country.
- 18th March 2013 – 3 nights at Hetzingen/Nideggen, Germany. On the edge of the Eiffel Forest, a German national park, this is a superb site on the river Ruhr.
- 21st March 2013 – 2 nights at Oostende, Belgium. Right on the coast road by the sand dunes, it will be fresh in March, but the seaside is good at any time of year.
The ferry run in both directions is Dover/Dunkirk on a super DFDS deal.
Sounds like an ideal short break. No doubt Ostende seafront is a wee bit more upmarket than Southend !!!! 🙂 Fingers crossed you get lovely spring weather
Of your three night stops, only familiar with Oostende. Good tram service runs the entire length of the Belgian coast from De Panne (French border) to Knokke (Dutch border). There are also frequent trains from Oostende to Bruges which is well worth a visit if you have the time. Bon route.
