Installation

IMAG0836

21-Jun-2014 Now it’s time to get the engine back in. I didn’t realise at the time, but I should have fitted the cross member to the engine before taking it off the stand. It was a lot harder to get on once it was on the floor.

After an hour of messing around trying to slide the engine and gearbox on a sheet of plywood, I lifted it onto the car creeper. The whole lot just fitted under the van and was put in the right position. This is obviously the way to do it 🙂

The engine crane is a real liability on these vans, so I improvised by using a 4×4 high lift Jack and some nylon rope from inside the motorhome.  Pull the engine and transmission up until you can get the crossmember bolts in.

Once the cross member bolts are holding everything in the right place, you can remove the jack from the motor home and jack up the back of the gearbox which will be quite close to the floor.

That’s it, the engine is in and all that needs doing is to connect everything up. I’ve just spotted that the radiator shroud is in two pieces so this will be repaired overnight. More news tomorrow when the engine will be connected up and hopefully all will be well.
