Route

Aside from the obvious travel from Witham to Dublin and back, the route round Ireland has been split into four legs. At the end of each leg I get a little break of 2-3 days from the driving.

Leg 1 – Dublin to Cork (23rd-24th March 2014)

leg1_routeThis is the first leg of the journey and gets me down to the South West of Ireland.

Taking in Wicklow and Wexford with Waterford being the overnight stop. The next day takes in Dungarvan and Cobh before ending up in Cork for a couple of days R&R.

Leg 2 – Cork to Clifden (26th-28th March)

leg2_routeThe second leg sees a very early start as the first day of the leg takes in Bandon, Skibbereen and part of the Ring of Kerry before winding up in Killarney for the overnight stop.

The second day of this leg takes the journey through Tralee and Limerick hopefully getting as far as Galway.

Finally, a fairly short drive to Clifden where my beach campsite awaits. I’ll spend three nights here and this will be the “unwind” part of the trip. No sights, no museums, no bars – just the sand and the Atlantic to captivate my interest.

Leg 3 – Clifden to Derry (31st March – 2nd April)

leg3_routeInto the second half of the holiday now, the third leg will take me to the North. Starting off at Clifden the first day of this leg takes me to Sligo with the bonus of a detour to the Ballycroy National Park along the way.

Day two is a short trip from Sligo to Dungloe taking in the county town of Donegal along the way.

After the overnight stop at Dungloe there is a trip up to Malin Head, then back down again to settle in Derry for a couple of nights.

Leg 4 – Derry to Dublin (4th-6th April)

leg4_routeThis is the final leg which takes me back to the Naas Road in Dublin which is exactly where I started.

The first day involves a trip to the Giant’s Causeway and Bushmills (wonder why?) finishing up in Belfast for a couple of nights.

Next leg is a run straight down to Dublin where I will spend my last two nights. It’s at this point I’ll see the sights of Dublin.
